Author's Notes:
Masquerade - This is one of the four Halloween stories I did for no particular reason in October of 2007. My inspiratation for the story was an issue of Ex Machina which was called pretty much the same thing (it might have been Ex Machina: Masquerade Special instead, but the idea is the same). I thought it was a really cool name for a superhero comic, so I, of course, decided to steal it.
The story also gave me a chance to use my superhero team name, and to introduce at least part of that team, as well as a whole bunch of other heroes, most of which won't show up again, so I didn't feel too bad making them rather obvious counterparts to more famous superheroes. And a chance to use the line "I am going to protest my foot through your skull", which I had been trying to fit into somewhere for quite a while.
Mostly, I just wanted to write about a side-kick, with a lame power, and what happens when she gets fed up with playing second (if that) fiddle. Which obviously, I've only started to touch on here, so stay tuned!
Death of a Superhero - As I mentioned in the story post, I wrote this for the AB/DL Story Forum Short Story Contest. It is, at the moment, my favorite story that I wrote. The idea for the story came from the image of someone (not necessarily even a superhero at that point) marking out their picture on a box of cereal. I just had to figure out why they were doing that, and the whole story just kind of flowed from that.
Croatoa - Another one of my 2007 Halloween stories. This is probably somewhat obvious, but this story is essentially just a rip-off of Frailty, because Frailty is an amazing movie, and I wanted someone with that same kind of religious fervor to be set against the meta-humans in my world.
A brief history lesson: the title of this story comes from the word "Croatoan", which was the word carved into a tree at Jamestown when the colony was found deserted.
