Author's Notes: For a while, this was my favorite thing that I had written, though it never really got the reception I expected - I guess partly because there were some rather huge breaks in between the chapters. Now, I probably like Death of a Superhero, which can be found in the Bygones Halloween Special, better, but this is still a close second.
You can blame Joss Whedon for this story - though if I had seen Six Feet Under at the time, you could have blamed whoever wrote the last few episodes of that series instead, or possibly as well. After watching the episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer called The Body, for probably the fifth or so time, I decided I wanted to try to write something about loss that was even the slightest bit as impactful as that. I'm not sure how well I succeeded for anyone else, but to me, this is one of my most powerful stories.
